Spring Cards with Doodlebug - and Gingham!

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! And, tomorrow is MARCH already! Yay for Spring time! We have had the most beautiful weather here in Sacramento lately. Super sunny and warm and just right for the changing of the season. All our flowers are blooming, and my crafty brain is starting to think of Easter and flowers and spring projects. Today is my day up on the Doodlebug Blog and for my projects I decided to focus on my all time favorite Doodlebug product: Gingham Paper! I used pretty die cuts and bright colors and lots and lots of gingham for my cards to share today. I hope this post brings a smile to your face, and inspires you to create. Have a great week ahead! I am soooo excited because we are going to the Scrapbook Expo this coming weekend! It's been more than two years!!! 

For years and years Doodlebug Gingham has been a staple item in my craft room. I have a stack of it on my desk about four inches thick! It comes in both 6x6 and 12x12 and I use it on everything! Today I was inspired by sunflowers and rainbows... And super happy colors. The small prints from Doodlebug (gingham, stripes, dots, etc.) can so easily work as 'neutrals' in place of plain cardstock. Try it sometime! I love this look and I really love to make die cut cards. 

For my sunflower card I used the Doodle Cuts Nesting Scallop Dies and the Doodle Cuts Hello There Dies. The flowers and leaves were all die cut from the 6x6 Gingham Paper Pad. The finished card is an A2 Kraft Cardstock base. I layered Florals, vellum and white....

 

For my 'hello' sentiment I stacked two die cuts made with black cardstock and then added white accents to them too. I attached to flowers to the card using foam tape so they pop right off the card. You could use this same card layout and make the flowers any color to match your theme or favorite color. I just happen to really love sunflowers!

 

Here is a close up of my paper layers. I used LOTS of white gel pen accents to add visual interest to the gingham paper. I added a small embellishment I made with two Doodlebug Buttons and Doodlebug Twine. Oh, and I love to add hearts to my projects, so there are a few hearts and Sprinkles too!

 

These die cuts are SO crisp!! I love the stitched 'veins' in the leaves. I used two different shades of green to make the leaves.

My next card is a gingham rainbow! The finished card is a white A2 card base. I used the AMAZING Doodlebug Raindrops Vellum paper as my background layer. (This paper has shiny raised raindrops and it's so pretty), then a layer of white. I die cut the rainbow stripes and attached them to the card. I used the Hello There Doodle Cuts to make those fluffy clouds and the hearts. 

 

I absolutely adore this sentiment from the Cute And Crafty Clear Stamp Set. I stamped it in black ink directly onto one of the clouds. It fit perfectly! This would be a fun card to give your creative friends!

 

I generously sprinkled paper hearts and Mini Jewels all around the rainbow!

Pretty Pink Presents for Pretty Pink Posh!

Hi guys! I'm back with another project I made as part of the Pretty Pink Posh 8th Birthday Celebration and new release! Today's project is part of the PPP giant three day Instagram Hop! For my card I decided that Pretty Pink Posh should have pretty pink presents!! The new Build A Gift Dies are wonderful! The right size and scale, so perfect for birthday (and Christmas) cards! My finished card is an A2 white card base layered with pink, vellum and then white. I used light pink, bold pink and gold as my color palette... So feminine and festive! I'm reminded that I need to make more birthday cards!

 

Here's a close up of those gorgeous presents! There are bows and ribbons....so pretty! And really easy to put together. 

 

I started by die cutting out a bunch of presents and bows and then I played around with the layout until I got the stack just right! I added enamel dots in pink and gold to finish off with a bit of sparkle.

 

Pretty Pink Posh has the most beautiful script sentiments. This die actually says "happy birthday to you" so I die cut it from bold pink and then snipped off the 'to you' portion to make it fit on my card. PERFECT!!

I can just picture these gifts in sooooo many color palettes!!! Can't wait to make some more!

Happy Valentine's Day with Doodlebug and Pretty Paper Hearts!

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, LOVELIES!!! I'm up on the Doodlebug Blog today celebrating Love Day! I am featuring the new Lots of Love Collection, along with some amazing Heart Box Dies from my friends at Concord & 9th. I created some heart treat boxes and decorated them with lots of happy things.... Who doesn't want some chocolate kisses on Valentine's Day?! I hope you have a fun day today! XOXO

Here are my treat boxes! Lots and lots of pink and red...kept it traditional from a color scheme perspective.... There are tons of photos in this post, so grab a cuppa and come along with me! This project would be SO great for party favors, bridal shower treats, weddings, and more... I'm completely smitten with the heart boxes dies! Really easy to create and so much fun. 

 

 

I made the boxes first and then used cute embellishments on top! How adorable are these sweet treats??!! I layered them with foam tape and added a sweet banner and some hearts!

 

For this one, I used flowers, leaves, and that pretty love you design.... This one would be good for any occasion!

 

 

 

Here are the heart boxes in progress. I used Doodlebug Textured Cardstock to make the boxes and then I used the 12x12 Doodlebug Gingham on top! The DB textured cardstock is the perfect weight for this project. It bends perfectly and makes such crisp folds. Just lovely. To make the boxes, you will die cut hearts and then the side pieces. Two side pieces and two hearts for the top, and two for the bottom. So you make two exactly the same and then they work as a box. Couldn't be easier!!! I used double sided tape and also a glue stick and liquid glue! Any type of adhesive works here.

Valentine's Day Decor - and my new typewriter!

Hello my sweethearts! I'm in the last minute scramble trying to post all the Valentine things! This month is flying by, don't you think? And it's time to celebrate looooooove! Last weekend the hubs and I went to the local Antique Mall and I finally found something I've been looking for - for years! I got my very own vintage, grungey, old, cool, Underwood Typewriter! I have found several in my search, but they were always too much money for me. I don't' want to use it, just display it and enjoy it... Well, I found my match on Sunday, and it was only $50! I couldn't believe it. I was like.... YAYYYYYYYYY! She's mine!!! It's in good shape and it has all the keys. Oh, and it weighs about five thousand pounds! LOL. So I jazzed it up with some roses from our garden, and one of our wedding photos, and some vintagey Valentines...to create a display in our living room! (I have this weird thing for old typewriters and flowers together!)

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY 2022!

Happy Birthday to our friends at Pretty Pink Posh - Here's some cupcakes!

Hi there crafty friends! Happy Saturday! What are you doing this weekend? We don't have any big plans for the weekend - just some errands and church and maybe a walk in the park. We had weather in the 70's all this past week and our flowers are already blooming! We have lots of daffodils and a few tulips are trying to pop out too! So we might have to do some yard work already! Spring has sprung in Sactown! I hope you have a delightful weekend!

Today's post is part of the big celebration of Pretty Pink Posh's 8th birthday! There's a three day blog hop and then also a three day Instagram hop, prizes, fun, inspiration, new products and more! I am so happy for Paulina and Pretty Pink Posh and wish them many many more happy birthday celebrations! One of my favorite companies for sure!!

My card for the hop has a birthday theme (of course!) and I used the brand new Build a Cupcake stamps and dies and a vivid, happy color palette! My finished card is a white A2 card base layered with some teal, more white and a bit of vellum too! Those cupcakes are the star of the show! Who doesn't love cupcakes?? 

 

I love this font, and I love that there's a matching die cut so it cuts out perfectly to put on your card! I stamped and die cut out three cupcakes. I colored them with Copic Markers and added white gel pen accents and glitter accents too!

 

 

Here's a close up of those cheery cupcakes! The stamp set has add-ons like a cherry, a candle, a star and more! For the background I used the awesome Star Stencils from Pretty Pink Posh! I used two shades of yellow distress inks and my blender brushes to make the stars. They made the perfect background for a birthday card!

 

I used a vellum circle as the background for the cupcakes. They are attached to the card with foam tape. The sentiment is centered on the bottom and is also attached with foam tape. I used the new Sunshine Pearls Embellishments on my card. SOOOOOO pretty! My crafting always turns to the color yellow this time of year....

Love is in the air!

Hi friends! By the end of this post you'll be humming the "up, up and away" song in your head! I have some exciting news and a happy card to share with you today. Hope you've been having a great week so far! It's almost Valentine's Day and I have a few heart/love themed projects to show you before the holiday comes. Today, my project is featured on the Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine Blog as part of their Valentine Week celebration! I'm so happy to be a guest on the magazine's blog. Super fun!

My card features stamps and dies from Concord & 9th's January Collection....and I totally love it all! My finished card is a white A2 card base that I covered with pink Cardstock. A crisp white layer (white hearts!) and then those awesome hot air balloon dies! I used a fresh color palette of red, white and aqua, with a few pops of pink. Let's look!

 

 

 

One of the (many) things I love about Concord & 9th is that they always think of the details! Like that little flag to go on top of the balloons!! I started this card by die cutting the gorgeous Stitched Hearts Background in white. Then I die cut out all of the balloon pieces, the hearts, and the clouds. I also die cut the 'love' word for my sentiment. I love the red and white stripes - feels sort of old fashioned and vintage.

 

Instead of using black for your die cut sentiments, use a dark grey instead. It gives the same effect, but is not as harsh as true black. I used grey to die cut the pretty 'love' sentiment that goes across the bottom of my card. I used woodgrain cardstock for the baskets to add some texture, and I kinda thought it looked like a basket!

 

I added pink hearts to the front of the balloons and also splashed on a bit of white paint. I created the banners across the balloons using Aqua Sky Cardstock and Vellum. I tucked in a few clouds behind the balloons. This is all so whimsical and fun!! 

 

 

 

I used foam tape to attach the balloons to the page. I love dimension on my cards, as you know! I think this is the perfect Valentine card! But it could also easily be a wedding card or a just because card.

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Lunar New Year - the year of the Tiger!

Hi everyone! Gung Hay Fat Choy! Happy Lunar New Year 2022! It's the Year of the Tiger! I haven't made a Lunar New Year card in a few years, but I wanted to make one this year for a few different reasons.... My husband is a Tiger, so it's his year! And, let's face it, January wasn't really that great, so why not start fresh at the Lunar New Year?! I have many friends who celebrate this holiday and I love to honor them with a card... I have been lucky enough to go to lots of awesome parades and celebrations over the years. It's truly magical to see, hear, smell and taste the beautiful chaos of a Lunar New Year parade!! Oh, and the delicious treats and all the gorgeous red and gold decorations!! 

People born in the year of the Tiger are vigorous and ambitious, daring and courageous, enthusiastic and generous, self-confident with a sense of justice and a commitment to help others for the greater good. Tigers are lively and cheerful, and they love freedom and independence. Tigers usually have a keen sense of justice. When faced with injustices, whether against themselves or others, you can be sure Tigers will not stand aside. Do you know what your Chinese Zodiac sign is? For my new year card, I wanted to capture all the beauty of the holiday and the feeling of the parade... I used stamps and dies from several different companies to make my vision come to life. I stayed with the traditional colors or red and gold, and of course, featured some cute tigers! My finished card is an A2 red card base, with another layer of red cardstock. Then all my decoration!

 

I die cut the numbers twice, from gold and black, and layered them for a shadow effect. I heat embossed the sentiment in gold onto a black panel... I die cut the reverse scalloped circle to frame the tigers... I stamped fireworks in dark red ink onto the red paper for a tonal effect. I also splattered some gold paint over the red!

 

For the celebratory elements I used balloon dies and cut out balloons from gold cardstock and vellum. I used the Mama Elephant Lion Dance set to make the lantern looking elements.
