Tropical Birthday Card with Pink Paislee Confetti Wishes!

Greetings of this new week - the first week of Summer! I always consider the official kick off to Summer as the week after Memorial Day! It was 96 degrees here yesterday so I'd say that qualifies us for Summer status! The heat came fast! It was a beautiful weekend in Northern California. On Friday we went and spent the day at the ocean. On the way home we stopped at Lands End and we saw TONS of whales swimming right up near the Golden Gate Bridge!! WOW - what a sight! SO beautiful and magical. It was a great day. Sunday we went out to breakfast and did a little small town local shopping. The rest of the time was yard work and crafting. Did you have a nice weekend? Are you ready for Summer now? This coming (next) weekend my husband and I will celebrate 25 years together (WOW).... We always honor the anniversary of our first date which was 6-4-93. Looking forward to a bit of a celebration with the big guy next week. It's our silver jubilee year. LOL!! 

I have a fresh and tropical birthday card for you today. NO stamping! Just pretty paper, die cuts and stickers all combined together with some paper sewing! I am head over heels crazy for this new paper collection from Pink Paislee. It's called Confetti Wishes - and I bought everything! I always love pink and green together and always also love anything tropical with florals and leaves. I was really inspired by the collection.  This will be a great June birthday card! 

 

The card is A2 size and I started with a white card base. I used two of the patterned papers from the 6x6 pad and sewed them together with a zig zag stitch on my new sewing machine! I attached those two sewn together layers directly onto the card base with no border.  Then I had fun attaching stickers and die cuts....and gems and sequins. In this side view you can see some of the pieces are raised up with foam tape. 

 

Here's a close up of the sewing. I used white thread and a standard needle. I always switch to a new needle if I'm going to sew fabric. I save the dull ones for paper. Also, if I'm going to sew thick heavy cardstock, I will put in a denim needle! It's really very easy to sew paper!! It doesn't slide around like fabric. I love this look. 

 

This is my new sewing machine! Isn't she pretttttyyyyy? It's a Janome and I bought it from QVC. They also have it on Amazon and HSN. Guess what? It comes in dark pink and yellow tooooo! This color is called Arctic Crystal. YAY!! 

 

 

 

To start my card layout I chose the big Monsteral leaves and the postage stamps first. They I layered around those elements. You can see that I added a big vellum circle underneath everything for one more piece of visual interest and softness. The stickers have gold accents so I used gold sequins on my card for some extra shine. 

 

This collection is awesome for cards! But also would make gorgeous scrapbook pages or party decorations. I'm going to try and use it and not hoard it. LOLZ. 

 

I bought a Monstera plant for my studio several weeks ago and it is SO happy in here! All the new leaves are fresh and such bright green! It truly makes me happy to look at it all day. It's growing so fast though, it might take over in here!!

You're Fruitastic! Pink Fresh Studio!

Hi friends! Happy Friday! And happy Memorial Day Weekend! The official start of Summer! Hope you have some fun plans happening! I have a fresh and fruity card to share today. It's fruitastic! LOL. That is actually the name of the super fab stamp set from Pink Fresh Studio! I am loving all of their stamps lately - can't get enough. They make the cute unicorn stamps and dies I used on this card too. I've been practically buying all of their sets. Today is colorful and happy!

I started with a red card base (unusual for me!) and layered white cardstock die cut with the pretty scallop stitches die from Right At Home stamps. This formed the base for my cutie fruities! I stamped the sentiment from another set called Aviary. LOVE that font. 

 

After I had my card base ready, I stamped and die cut out three lemons, three strawberries and three oranges. I made a fruit salad! LOL. I used the brand new Avery Elle Coarse Glitter to add some sparkly highlights to all the fruit pieces. I used some clear glue and just dunked them into the little container. All the fruits are layered onto the card using foam tape.

This card came together pretty quickly and easily! Not much to it, but it gives off a big vibe! 

 

 

 

I had this big bowl of lemons in the kitchen and decided to use them as my photo props! And then I took a picture of them in front of the window. I love lemons! We go through lots of them at our house!!

Sharing the new release from Right At Home Stamps - Florals and Butterflies!

Hi there my sweet crafty tribe! How are you this week? I hope all is well in your corner of the globe today! Summer is coming fast!! This weekend is Memorial Day weekend already! Dang! I'm not sure what we're doing for the long weekend but hopefully the weekend will involve at least one day at the ocean! I've been purging and cleaning my craft studio for at least a year now. Last weekend some of my crafty friends and I did a big crafty garage sale and it was lots of fun. I saw many friends and sold a lot of my unused stamps and dies. I'm so happy they're going to good homes. On my A Blog Called Wanda Facebook page (link is on my left sidebar) I have listed one last giant box of goodies for anyone who wants to buy it! It feels so good in here now. I feel productive and creative and energized again. All ready for Summer crafting! Yay! 

Today I'm sharing something really fun, fabulous and wonderful with you! I'm super happy to share the brand new release from Right at Home Stamps. I was totally impressed with everything in this release that I had to have it all - stat! Really clever and unique and just so so pretty. Butterflies, florals, and a gorgeous alphabet too. I made four cards to showcase the new items. I used a pretty Spring/Summer color palette and had the best time creating. CLICK HERE to go to the Right at Home website. Nicole, the owner, is the sweetest lady, and her style is fresh and beautiful. I know you're gonna love it too. I have tons of pictures to share today. How gorgeous is that Folk Alphabet?? It's two steps - one is a solid stamp for each letter, and the other is the lines - which I stamped in a darker shade on the two cards. I love love love this alphabet and am already thinking of so many uses for it! I want to make a little sign for my friend's baby - with her name and some flowers - to put in her room. You could customize envelopes, of write out any occasion! SO creative!! For two cards I used the alphabet as the focal point and built florals around them. EEK. All cards are A2 size. For all of them I used the brand new Gingham paper from Sunny Studio (links at the bottom of my post). 

 

I used the leaves from the Freshly Picked set here to build a wreath around the word Love... I added the 'you' from the Script Greetings set in rich black to pop. Shades of yellow, dark pink and green showcase the pretty aqua in the middle. I used pigment inks for all of these cards because I like the softer effect. A few of the yellow flowers were popped up with foam tape. Then I added some clear gems. 

 

The butterflies in the Fluttering By set are graphic and kind of funky. I love it! Lots of different stamps to use to make your own color combinations and designs. The dies are a perfect match. I used my MISTI to line up everything. I die cut the butterfly shapes from white cardstock first and then stamped onto the die cut - this gave me a 'frame' to line up my images. 

 

 

 

 

 

All of the stamps and dies in this new release go together so perfectly. I love layering letters, and flowers, and butterflies....

 

 

 

 

 

 

For this card, I kept it a bit more clean and simple, with the butterfly as the focus of my card. I added pops of red too. And one of my layers is vellum. OOOH la la!

Ellen Hutson Color Trend Challenge - May 2018!

Hi crafty friends! And welcome new crafty friends! Did you pop over from the Ellen Hutson Blog? I'm excited today to be part of the very first Ellen Hutson Color Trend Challenge! What is that you ask? Well, it's a brand new inspiration challenge based on the current Color Trend of the month. Each month, there will be a beautiful mood/inspiration board based on the month’s color trend to inspire you.  You can find the inspiration board and all the details about the challenge in the Ellen Hutson CLASSroom! CLICK HERE! Also, it's where you can enter your own card! This is something we can all join in!

Each month, a random challenge participant will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Ellen Hutson store. WOOT! To be eligible, you must use Essentials by Ellen products and the photo badge as the inspiration for your project. There will be an link up on the Ellen Hutson challenge post where you can submit your projects. I really hope you will be inspired to make a card too! This is how I got my start in blogging and being on design teams. Back in the day, I used to enter every type of challenge I could! It made me think outside the box and try new things. I hope that's the case for you too. 

For my card I used the super beautiful Mondo Peony Stamp Set and Matching Dies from Ellen Hutson. This stamp set is an all time favorite of mine! Here is my finished card. I'll show you the inspiration image and explain how I made my card below! All my supplies are listed at the bottom of my post! 

 

And...here is the gorgeous inspiration image! WOW! So many colors, and so many places to use as a starting point! I was immediately drawn to the navy and purple so that's what I started with. Then I loved how the light was dancing off all the colors in the photos so I used gold accents on my card to mimic that. Gold embossing and gold paint flecks. I used watercolors since the images are all sort of flowy and loose. I cannot wait to see what everyone else makes! There are going to be some amazing projects! What are you drawn to first??

 

Both my card base and my top layer are cut from rich dark navy cardstock. My finished card is A2 size. I stamped the Mondo Peony and the Leaves onto watercolor paper and die cut them with the matching dies. Then I used Distress Inks to watercolor the pieces. I set those aside to dry. 

 

Next I heat embossed the words thank you (from the Stay Golden stamp set) with pretty gold embossing powder. Then I flecked gold paint over this top layer too. I also ended up putting gold paint flecks onto the flower! MMMMMM. 

 

I layered vellum and patterned paper at an angle across the top layer. Then I attached the top layer to the card base using foam tape. Next I attached the flower and leaves at an angle in the corner - also using foam tape.

First up is a pretty, graphic, floral made with a simple color palette and lots of black and white!  

 

 

 

 

 

Next up is a warm and cheerful succulents card. I colored this one with my Copic markers and created my own background with Versamark Ink on a kraft card base!

 

 

 

 

 

Next up is a festive Alpaca who knows how to party! Fiesta!  I used my Copic markers again on this one and a colorful palette of teal, orange and yellow! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And finally, a classy and elegant card made with rich grey and bright yellow. Oh, and some gold embossing! I love the black ink of the background florals on the grey paper. I'm going to try that technique again soon!

Introducing the new Birthday Bash Kit from Queen & Company! Did someone say pom poms?!

Hi everyone! Happy Weekend! And for all you moms out there working hard - Happy Mother's Day! I hope you have a delightful day planned with your families and friends today. Last week totally got away from me, I was so busy. I only did one blog post! Well, this week we're going to fix that situation! I have three exciting blog posts planned for this week! YEAH! Today it's all about unique and fun Birthday cards made with a brand new card kit from Queen & Company! OMG - soooooo much fun this kit! I've never seen anything like it. And, it includes one of my very fav crafty things - pom poms! EEP. CLICK HERE to see the kit - it's awesome - and it's called Birthday Bash! I made two cards to share and showcase the original designs and concepts. I've said it before... The kits from Queen & Company are truly amazing. The most product for the best price. Check 'em out! 

Here are my two cards for today! And I made that pom pom banner too! There are so.many.pom.poms in this kit! 

 

First up is an icy blue (blueberry?) ice cream cone! Everything you need comes in the kit: Dies, Stamps, pom poms in lots of colors, gems in many colors, and an entire matching paper pad! I started this card with a white card base. Then I layered the pink polka dot paper from the kit, and then another white layer. I used two shades of yellow distress ink to make a washed background. Then I used the stars stamps in the same yellow! I love how it came out! I'm really working on perfecting my backgrounds. I stamped the sentiment in black ink.  

 

I die cut two of the ice cream cone dies out of kraft paper. I layered them with foam tape to pop off the card. Now the fun part! I used clear glue to attach my pom poms. Came together so quickly and easily. I used a pink one for a cherry on top and added a tiny piece of kraft paper for a stem. 

 

These cards have so much texture and pow to them. Can you imagine how happy someone will be to get this unique card? I can't wait to give these to my friends! I added one sparkly tear drop gem to look like the cone was dripping. 

 

 

 

To make this adorbs little pom pom garland I took a needle and thread and strung them in the same order all the way down. This one is about 28 inches long! It's so festive. Can't wait to use it on another project....gets my creative wheels spinning! CLICK HERE to buy just the pom poms!

Now, who doesn't love a big pink poofy cupcake!? For my second card I also started with a white A2 card base. I layered two of the included patterned papers across the bottom of the card. Then I stamped the sentiment in black. I really like this festive font. I die cut two cupcake bottoms out of silver sparkly paper and I also die cut some stars from the silver paper. 

 

 

Make a Wish! 

 

To build the cupcake top, I used two different shades of the pink pom poms, and two different sizes. I just kept layering them more and more and more! Again I used clear glue to attach them all. I added a candle and some more pretty gems for a bit more sparkle. The yellow ones look just like a flame!

My Monthly Hero - May 2018 Card Kit - All About Family!

Welcome to the Hero Arts "My Monthly Hero - May 2018" Blog Hop!" Hope your Spring is going great! Here we have been enjoying being outside, especially in the evenings... And later this week it's supposed to be 96 degrees! Yeeks. Way toooo early for that nonsense. Summer is coming I guess -whether we're ready or not! I still want a bit more Spring! I had a lovely weekend. Thursday and Friday, I enjoyed spending time with Cindi from Flora & Fauna who was here in Sactown!! (maybe you saw my Instagram Stories!?)  Saturday, the hubs and I took the ferry over to San Francisco and went to the Ferry Building Farmers Market. It was the perfect foggy day and the produce and flowers were all so colorful. Things like that really inspire me creatively. Color, texture, flowers...all of it. Such a nice day! Plus, if you are a member of Rising Tide Society, you will appreciate this - I ran into Natalie Franke! She was just as warm and wonderful as I would have imagined! She even took a photo with me. What a surprise treat! 

I'm glad to be here with you today launching the newest card kit from Hero Arts. This month's kit is full of cool silhouettes and beautiful dies, with a family tree and family theme. Super clever and unique stamps and dies with very fun accessories.  I hope you find some (many) things to inspire you. I have two cards to share today! One was made with the main kit, and the other one I made with some of the pretty add-ons.

My first card is showcasing the pretty frames and silhouettes stamps add-ons. I tried to create a pretty frame wall look  with gold embossed frames and rich black silhouettes of the family members. This would be a great Mother's Day card or Anniversary card. I chose elegant colors of gold, white, black and blush pink.  

 

 

This card started with a soft blush pink card base in A2 size. I layered black and then white for my top layer. I used the very pretty Family Portrait stamp set for this one! I played with the frames and silhouettes on a scratch paper until I found the right combination. Then I embossed all the frames with Versamark Ink and Hero Arts Gold Embossing Powder. Next I stamped the family members inside the frames. (The set even includes a cat and dog silhouette!) I added a few Hero Arts pearls for accents. 

 

The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed with White Hero Arts Embossing Powder onto black paper and then trimmed to size. The sentiment strip was attached to the card with foam tape. I really love the pretty gold against the black and white. Looks like a gallery frame wall!

 

My next card was made using the stamps from the main card kit. All of them are silhouettes and there are a million stamps to choose from! A very large sheet of stamps to create scenes as many as your imagination can come up with! I loved the tree branches the most, so I built my card around them. The card base is a White A2 size. I layered orange cardstock and then my top panel was white before I inked it into a sunset!

 

To create my background I used three colors of Distress Inks (supplies listed below) and the Tim Holtz Blending Tools and kept going over the paper with color until I achieved the evening sunset look I was after. Once the ink blending was done, I used a paint brush and some water mixed with the distress inks to add splatters. Then I used the paint brush again to add white splatters. I can't help myself! Once all of the inking was dry. I used rich juicy black ink and stamped the two branches, the girl swinging, and the squirrel (so cute)! My college has a big swing that looks down over the entire campus and this stamp of the pretty girl swinging reminded me of that! 

 

lastly I added the cheerful sentiment to the lower right corner of the card. I kept it very clean and simple because of all that color going on. These stamps really shine by themselves! I cannot wait to see what everyone else makes with these stamps!! The possibilities are endless really!

You Make Life Sparkle! Pink Fresh Studio Magical Unicorn!

Hello crafty unicorn friends! You make my life sparkle with your love and support! So this card is for you today! Keep on sparkling and being the magical creatures you are! I love all of you and thank you for being here for me! Thanks for coming by today to see what's up. Last weekend I went to visit my online crafty friend Tracy and her FIVE foster kittens! OMG they were so cute and fluffy and amazing. It truly did my heart good to get some kitten therapy! Tracy and I have been friends for many years - we were on the Taylored Expressions Design Team together - but we had never met in person until last Saturday! She is the sweetest person and we had a fun day together, along with her beautiful and lovely daughter. What a treat. I almost adopted one of her foster kittens but after thinking about it some more I've decided I'm not ready quite yet for a new fur baby. I still miss my Buddy so very much! I'll know when the time is right... Maybe soon. Then I can blow up Instagram with kitty pictures again! 

My life has been pretty quiet this week. I have been creating and resting in solitude, prayer, and art. I have been pretty stressed out lately for a number of reasons and not feeling like my usual perky self. When that happens, I tend to hibernate and isolate until I feel cheery again. It's the way I've always been... Probably something to do with being an only child. I did not have an amazing and wonderful childhood, and I work on overcoming that pretty much on a daily basis. I am a warrior because I keep fighting. We are all warriors in some way or another. I think as women we need to give ourselves a bit more praise and a lot less criticism! That's my message for today. God is good and HE alone defines me and my truth. Lessons abound. 

But, tonight I'm going to have some fun! Cindi Nelson, from Impress/Savvy/Flora&Fauna, is here in town and tonight we're going out for dinner. I love Cindi and she makes me smile. She is a good soul. And so very creative too. I can't wait! If you're local to Sacramento, she's teaching here the next few days! Call Paper Garden if you're interested in signing up!  

Since you are all unicorns...I made you a card! I wanted these stamps and dies from Pink Fresh Studio the moment I laid eyes on them! They are called, appropriately enough, Magical Unicorn! I bought this new background die this weekend at one of my LSS. It's called Quilted and it's from Lawn Fawn. LOVE. LOVE. I used a pretty shade of lavender as my focal color. I never use lavender and thought it would be a nice change from pink - which was my automatic first choice for this project. XO All the supply links are at the bottom of my post. 

 

I started with an A2 card base from white paper. I die cut the Quilted Background Die out of the lovely lavender paper and attached it to the card base. The background die is exactly the same size as an A2 card front so there is no border. I kind of love that. I cut out a smaller white layer for my stamping and die cutting. I stamped the sentiment first at the bottom, and then the eyelashes (so cute) and the yellow stars. Next stamped and embossed the horn with gold embossing powder so it's shiny! 

 

I die cut the ears, leaves, horn and flowers out with the matching dies. I stamped the flower centers and the leaf veins onto the already cut out die cut pieces. For the ears, I covered them with Wink Of Stella Clear paint so there is a bit of shimmer. I added blue gems to the flower centers. Everything is attached to the card with foam tape. 

 

 

 

I clustered the flowers and leaves around the horn to look like a flower headband. Of course she's a girl unicorn!! LOL.

Honey Bee Stamps Spring Release Blog Hop!

Hello friends! I'm very very excited to finally be able to share the brand new Spring 2018 Release from HONEY BEE STAMPS! Today we're kicking off a giant two day blog hop with loads of your favorite crafters, tons of inspiration, and great prizes! I'm the last stop here for Day One! Welcome to my blog! So happy to see you here. I've been working with these new stamps and dies for a while now and I've been really wanting to share projects. Well....today is finally the day! Yipppeeeeeee! I'm not sure, but I'm thinking this might be their biggest release yet. Enjoy the hop! I'm sharing three cards today. Some fun cute critters and some boho chic inspired! 

 

First up is this boho chic inspired card made with the new My Tribe stamps and dies. I combined the stamps and dies with a pretty 6x6 paper pad from my stash. I colored the images with watercolor pencils and a water brush. Super easy - and super easy to match the colors in the papers too! 

 

I kept the coloring soft and pretty in a muted color palette. I added some pearls for a bit of shimmer and also twine on the left side of the card. I tore the patterned papers with my hands - very free and easy. It's a nice way to add texture and interest. 

 

I absolutely LOVE this sentiment and the beautiful font! I'll be using that one a lot!! So fresh and pretty. 

 

As usual, my elements are attached to the card using foam tape for added dimensional interest. This card makes me want to go to Coachella! LOL.

 

 

 

Next up are two cards made with the crazy cute new critters: Lily the Lamb and Pinky the Pig! EEEEK! Really adorable! I had a lot of fun coloring these with my Copic Markers! I kept the color palettes bright and fresh and Spring-like. 

 

That Lily is super sweet! The die cut for the lamb is in two pieces - the body and the face. I added a third layer by cutting out her little poof of hair too! Just F-U-N! She is in her little meadow of green gingham grass cut with the new grass die. The fence is a brand new die too. It all works together so nicely! The sentiments in the accompanying stamp sets crack me up. Puns and silly sentiments along with serious ones. Gotta love how Honey Bee does sentiments. 

 

 

 

And lastly for today - Pinky the Pig! With his adorable wings!! Again, everything is colored with Copic Markers and kept nice and bright. I gave him a heart to hold and used the Hogs and Kisses sentiment. This would make a cute 'love' card or Valentine's card. 

 

Pinky comes with all of his own accessories! His hands hold a coffee, a donut, a cupcake....all kinds of things! There is a slot cut into the die cut that makes it easy to get perfect placement. It was hard to decide which ones to use!
