It's Summer - I'm ready for ice cream!

Hey party people! How was your Memorial Day Weekend? Nice to have a few days with the family and friends at the beginning of summer isn't it? I worked most of the weekend, which is so strange because it's the opposite of my 'old' life! I don't mind one bit though. I had a most awesome work assignment on Sunday helping Brenda photograph her Christmas Classics Collection for Sizzix that will be coming out soon. (Yes, we are talking about Christmas already!) I love to collaborate and we had a fun and productive day. It is super HOT here right now and it's supposed to be over 100 degrees for the next 5-6 days too. Guess I'll be staying inside! YUCK! I never was a hot weather person.... and now that I have reached a certain age.... I like it even less! 

Because of the holiday, and because it's so hot, I was inspired to make a Summer card today! I used two of my favorite Simon Says Stamp Summer themed stamp sets - Pool Play and Cone Building. I adore these two sets for all the season's cards. They are fun and cheerful and sure to make you smile. I used a brand new paper pad too, and it just may be one of my favorite paper pads ever. (link at the bottom of my post). It's called "Sunny" and that's just what it is!  The patterned paper inspired the colors for the card. 

 

 

I started by stamping the ice cream cones with Distress Inks onto the smooth side of watercolor paper. Then I used a water brush and wet the ink and softened the edges a bit. I used a post it note for a mask on the top part of the cones so that the ice cream sits on there just right! I used bright green, orange and pink - pure Summer! I stamped the sentiment with Archival black ink. I wasn't sure if I was going to add some ink splatters, so I used waterproof ink just in case. 

 

 

This heart image comes with the Cone Building stamp set so I added a few accent hearts in matching green ink. And, you know, some sequins!

 

 

The white paper layer is attached to the card with foam squares. This is an A2 card. I love the striped paper for this card because it totally reminds me of an ice cream shop!

I actually cooked something from Pinterest! Chicken Gyros - YUM!

Hi everyone! I have a huge announcement today....ready? I actually cooked something from my Pinterest Board!! LOL. I looooooove Pinterest and I use it all the time for card ideas and techniques and creative inspiration. I also use it to keep track of my own cards. I have a Food & Recipes Board that has all sorts of yummy looking things pinned to it! Well....I finally made something. And, guess what? It was awesome! The hubs loved it and it's already going into the menu rotation at our house. For years I have been a 'non planning' grocery shopper. I decided that since I work from home now and I have a bit more time, that I would like to plan our meals for the week and be a smart shopped instead. Last week was the first week and it was a big success. I did better at the grocery store (I hate grocery shopping) and kept to my list. The hubs likes to know what's for dinner all week so he can look forward to it. No last minute runs to the store. Love it already. So, what I made was Chicken Gyros! OMG. It was fast, easy and super fresh and delicious too. THIS IS WHERE I GOT THE RECIPE. I followed the recipe exactly for both the Gyros and the Tzatziki sauce. The only addition I made was to use some fresh feta cheese on top. We do not like raw onions at our house, so I left those out. The Pitas I used were from Sara Lee and they were in the bread section at my grocery store. I marinated the chicken for about three hours. To cook it I broiled the boneless chicken breasts under the broiler for ten minutes each side. I should add that the chicken was good cold the next day too, like for a salad!  

 

 

 

 

 

This is how the chicken came out of the oven. YUM. The oregano was so flavorful and the yogurt made the chicken moist. I left the garlic pieces on the chicken when I cooked it too. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I baked some frozen french fries in the oven and then sprinkled them with Lawry's Seasoned Salt. Fresh dill in the Tzatziki.....mmmmmmmm.

Papertrey Ink May 2016 Customer Blog Hop!

Hi crafty people! How are you? How's your week going? Happy Humpday! It's the 25th of the month, which means that it's time again for the awesome and inspiring Papertrey Ink Customer Blog Hop! I am always happy when I have time to enter this one. The hop is open to everyone and anyone! There is an inspiration image, and the only rule is that you have to use at least one PTI product (no problem at my house!!) The inspiration image this time spoke to me right away. Here is my finished card! I used the Painted Petals Anniversary stamp set and my trusty Distress Inks... Combined the inks with lots of water and tried to re-create the soft feeling of that gorgeous inspiration image. 

 

 

Here is a close up of the colors and how I layered the flowers. You can see I added just a few white sequins too! To make the flowers I used different colors of mini Distress Ink Pads and then stamped onto watercolor paper. Right after stamping, I used a paint brush and lots of water and mixed the colors together. This is one of those projects that I think looks better in person. It's really vivid!!

 

Here is the inspiration image. Don't you LOVE all those soft beautiful colors blending together? Besides making me wish for a popsicle, it totally inspired me. I chose to use the color palette from the picture. I also loved the red and teal speckles, so I used that too! Finally, instead of using one sentiment and doing it in black - I used grey ink! 

 

 

Here's a close up of the sentiment. After I stamped the large word, I used my water brush to soften the edges.... You can also see my speckles in red and teal. That really adds something to the overall look.

Succulents are in right now!

Hey friends! Checking in to say howdy and get caught up. How are you? How was your week? My week was very low key and quiet. Got some things done around the house and got some rest. It is warm here already - Summer is coming for sure. I've kind of been in a bit of a funk - just quiet and thoughtful...nothing wrong or anything. I feel like I have finally adjusted to my new life as a work at home person, but sometimes I get lonely and I miss having crazy co-workers and chit chat in my day! It is hard to find a routine, isn't it? For my entire life I was up and out the door in a flash every morning! I sure like having my coffee with Buddy each day. Sorry to ramble on! Hope everything is good with you!! 

Well, something happened the other afternoon.... I stamped just for the heck of it! I didn't have any current commitments or assignments for anyone and Lord knows I have loads of uninked stamps laying about! So I put on some tunes in the studio and made this card to share today. Have you noticed that succulent stamps are H-O-T right now? All the big companies have super cool and fun succulents for us to stamp and make cards with! Who knew this would be a thing? I am liking it though! For this card today, I used two of the Succulent Stamps from Hero Arts and a sentiment stamp from Savvy Stamps (links at the bottom). I had a lot of fun water-coloring with my Distress Inks too!

Here's the finished card! I used a kraft card base (you know that's one of my fav things to do) and then layered watercolor paper with some pretty teal cardstock.  

 

 

I started by stamping the two succulent stamps in Rusty Hinge Distress Ink onto a watercolor panel. Then I took a water brush and went around the images to soften the edges. Next I splattered some Crushed Olive Distress Ink onto the panel. Then I used a sponge dauber and Antique Linen Distress ink to gently ink the edges all the way around. I set that part aside to dry.

 

 

I stamped my two main images in Archival Black ink onto watercolor paper. I used my Mini Distress Inks and a water brush to color the pots and the plants. Turns out that Rusty Hinge ink and Walnut ink make the perfect terra cotta pot! I added some touches of Evergreen Bough Distress Ink for some blue tones. I cut the images out by hand since I do not have the matching dies. I adhered them to the main panel using foam squares. 

 

 

The sentiment was stamped in Walnut Stain Distress Ink and then softened again with my water brush. Here's a close up!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some pretty natural cord and a few enamel dots finished off the whole card!

Okay, so here's my project! I made THESE BEARS when the felt dies first were released and always had the idea in the back of my mind to make a Christmas ornament bear. So, for today's share, that's what I did! I made the bear a nice rich brown (he's a California Grizzly! LOL) and then gave him a nice red scarf. I used the Snowflake Banner die to make a fluffy white snowflake for his tummy. Before I sewed him together I added a pretty gingham ribbon to use to hang him on the tree. 

 

 

I added Doodlebug enamel dots for his eyes, and as accents for his snowflake and scarf. I wanted to put just a little pop of green somewhere on the project.

Simon Says Stamp June 2016 Card Kit - Look for the miracles!

Hi there! It's the 14th of the month, which means it's time to launch another awesome Simon Says Stamp Card Kit! The kit for June is called "Look for the Miracles" and it's so bright and bold and happy! The kit is now available in the Simon Says Stamp online store. CLICK HERE! This kit has such vivid and fun colors, and the papers are beautiful, and have messages of faith on them. I love it all! I was so inspired this time around that I made THREE cards to share with you today. They are each a totally different style, so you can see how versatile the supplies are. I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead of you! Happy Saturday! 

I'm going to show you the main photo for each of the three cards first, then I'll go into more detail on each one further down in my post. The supply links are at the very bottom. Thank you for coming by today. 

The first card is quick and simple and can be colored a million different ways with your favorite markers. I used one of the included coloring cards from the kit (already pre printed on smooth paper) and went to town with my Copics. To finish up I added some enamel dots, twine and just a touch of glitter Diamond Stickles. 

 

This next card was not quite so quick and easy! (LOL) I used the new Simon Says Stamp Clear Ink (which is amazing) and white embossing powder and stamped the images on watercolor paper. I hand cut out the flowers and leaves and built my card around them. I used my Kuretake Clean Color Brush Markers to color the images. 

 

For this last one I incorporated the pretty patterned papers. I actually stamped onto the top of the pattern and then watercolored with a bit of distress ink. I love this look! I used a pretty circle die to frame the sentiment, which was stamped in Intense Black Ink. 

 

 

Okay, now back to the first card. My exact Copic colors are in the supply links. I used two different colors to make ombre letters! I could see this card colored in soft pretty pastels, or really bright colors too. I used a medium palette of coral, yellow and aqua. Some of my favorite shades. I slightly trimmed the card and layered it onto black paper to make it pop! Then I used the included solid cardstock to make a pretty yellow card base. You can see the shimmer from the Stickles. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

For this card I stamped, embossed and cut out a lot of the floral images. Then I had a great time coloring with my Kuretake Clean Color Brush Markers. I colored directly onto the watercolor paper and then used a paint brush and water to move the ink around and blend it together. This is one of my favorite looks for floral images. It's so pretty. i tried to exactly match the yellow in the cardstock. 

 

My flowers are popped up with foam squares for effect. I used the Intense Black Simon Says Stamp Ink to add some of the dots (accent stamps) and I like the contrast of the black against that crisp white. I cut the corners of my panels with a corner rounder. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And finally, this cheery card was made using the big, bold sentiment. It's so beautiful! And, what a lovely saying. This could be used for any 'cheer up' occasion. I love the blue cardstock that comes in the kit, and how it matches that heart paper. OOH LA LA. I layered a couple of the papers together and die cut some circles. This is a clean card layout - very graphic.

Simon Says Stamp New Release - Dads & Grads!

Hey everyone! I'm back again already! How are you enjoying the Hero Arts blog hop? (see yesterday's blog post) Be sure to leave a comment on that post for a chance to win a prize! It's been a fun and busy week for me. My husband had to go to away for work this week, so I tagged along with him. Heck, free hotel room, right!? I brought my laptop and some work with me and in between sight seeing and adventures I did my work. I'm so grateful for having the kind of work that I can bring with me! I'll be headed home tonight so I can give my kitty a big ole hug and get things back on track at home. Lots going on creatively this week too! 

Simon Says Stamp is releasing a "Mini Release" today called Dads and Grads! It's five products geared towards Father's Day and graduation projects. A couple of new ink pads too. Can't beat that! I used the "Fathers Day Finds" stamp set and dies to make a cute fishy card to share with you today. CLICK HERE to see the full release at the SSS Store.  I used a brand new paper pad that just came in the mail on Saturday. It's so fun and it's called Summer Party! Woot! I matched my Copic colors to the fish in the paper.  

 

 

This stamp set doesn't have to be just for Father's Day. I think this would be a great all occasion card for anyone who enjoys the outdoors or the beach! The matching dies make this card a breeze to create. And not too much coloring. I added a few Doodlebug Bubbles enamel dots too. (Supply links below)

 

 

The Splashy Waves Dies come as a set. I used one of the patterned papers from the package (an ombre blue) and cut all three dies from the same paper. Then I used foam squares to mount one on top of the other for my water. 

 

 

You can't really see it in the photo, but I added clear Wink Of Stella pen to the fish's fins and the fishing pole.

Hero Arts Summer 2016 Release Blog Hop!

SUMMER 2016 NEW RELEASE BLOG HOP!

For my project I'm using my favorite new stamp from the release - the "Destination San Francisco" City Stamp!! YAY! A stamp of one of my favorite places on earth! There are NINE cities represented in these awesome stamps....and I've been to all of them! How cool! Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, just to name a few. I wanted this stamp right away....and hopefully eventually I'll collect them all. I did a loose water color of the stamp and made it sort of aged and vintage like an old postcard. I used the "Kelly's San Francisco" stamps as an accent on my card base. (I left my heart....) Let's take a look!

 

I started by stamping my image onto crisp paper. I did not use watercolor paper this time! I used a water brush and my Kuretake Water Colors to loosely color my image. I set it aside to dry. After it was dry I gently crumpled it in my hands to add some wrinkles and texture. They I used some Vintage Photo Distress ink and a sponge dauber to ink around the edges of the paper. I mounted it onto some orange cardstock to match the golden gate bridge...

 

 

 

I used some brown ink and one of the little accent stamps to make rows of words in just the corner. 

 

 

 

I thought it would be a nice touch to add a cute little enamel dot heart on the card somewhere! I tied a pretty twine bow and glued the heart in the center.

Reverse Confetti Birthday Blog Hop! Hurray!

  

 

Hi there! It's time to celebrate! Good times! Birthday! I am happy to be joining the celebration as Reverse Confetti Stamps celebrates its 3rd birthday! WOOOT WOOOT! How can it only have been three years? I feel like I have loved their stamps forever. Big congratulations to Jen and the entire Confetti Crew on this milestone. I'm delighted to have been invited to be part of this hop today. In honor of the occasion, I made, what else.... A birthday card! I used the brand new cake stamps and dies and the awesome new sentiments. I crafted up a yummy color scheme of pink and mint green. I really had so much fun playing with these cake stamps... I started by choosing my color scheme, and then my patterned papers... I stamped the confetti image at the top of a piece of paper, in a lovely mint green ink. Then I layered a frame over that piece to create a window box for my pretty cake. I stamped the cake in black ink and then colored it light pink with a Copic Marker... Before stamping the second color - pink ink. 

 

 

This banner was made by using one of the stamps that goes onto the cake! I stamped and cut it out three times and made those pieces into a banner for the top of my frame! A pretty mint green enamel dot looks nice right in the center.

 

 

I colored the cake stand with a Copic marker also. There are tiny touches of Diamond Stickles on the candles and the cake plate.

A lovely crafty weekend retreat! (And some prizes!)

Gosh, how is it Wednesday afternoon already? WOWZA! I was in a crafty time warp for a few days and it was wonderful! I spent four days at a lovely craft retreat hosted by my amazing friend Brenda Walton. She invited a few of her crafty friends for a marvelous time in her studio from Friday through Monday. I've never been to a retreat like that before. It was great to be able to slow down and know that we had plenty of time together....  We crafted, stayed up really late, ate great food, laughed, took lots of pictures, went on a road trip, laughed some more, crafted some more... It was really such a nice time. Brenda and her awesome husband are truly gracious hosts. They make you feel so welcome. I am so very grateful to have been invited. I really want to share photos of our time together with you. Each crafty gal brought a project, or projects to share and that was really fun. Somewhere along the way I stopped and thought to myself "how did I get so lucky?" It's now been ten months since Crafting and Blogging became my full time job. I am blessed well beyond what I deserve! 

I brought my Idea-ology Charm Bracelet project to share with everyone and they loved it. All the bracelets came out pretty and unique. Tim Holtz supplied the products for us - huge shout out to Tim and Mario for that. And, they sent enough items so that I could share one of the bracelet kits with one of YOU as a prize! (Read to the end of my post to find out more). I'll just start with some photos and share more as I go along....

Sharyn brought Brenda some beautiful Lilacs from Washington - on the plane! The smell was divine... 

 

 

Here we are so giddy to be at the beginning of our long weekend....waiting for everyone else to arrive. That's me in the back, Sharyn, Brenda and Debi. 

 

This is how I packaged everyone's bracelet project kits. I got the gable boxes at The Container Store and stamped them using stamps from Simon Says Stamp and Concord & 9th. (Links below also) I added a bit of pink confetti in the bottom.  

 

 

 

This is what the bracelet kits look like - and what is part of the prize giveaway! YAY!

 

 

 

 

Here we are making our bracelets. We used alcohol inks to dye the gumdrops gems and the stars, and then glued everything together with Glossy Accents. The charms were attached to the bracelets using Tim Holtz Jump Rings. I bought the chain part at Michael's in the jewelry section. This is a super fun project that doesn't take a lot of time. The links to everything I used are below in case you would like to make one! (Great group project!)

I loooooove this photo of all of our creative hands together!! These hands do a whole lot of crafting!! 

 

 

 

Debi hand painted these amazing cookies for all of us! Personalized with our initials! They were very tasty, too....although it was hard to eat these little pieces of art. 

 

The group got a little bigger on Saturday! Brenda, Me, Cathe, Sharyn, Gina, Vicki and Debi. Thanks to Brenda's husband for always taking such nice pictures of us silly girls! 

 

 

Cathe brought a fantastic project so we could make boxes for our bracelets. We painted boxes and then used vintage stencils and texture paste to make them fancy and beautiful.

So, this is what our table looked like at MIDNIGHT as we thought it was a good idea to make pressed flower items! Sharyn brought all of these gorgeous pressed flowers from her garden. She also brought vintage music and book pages to put the flowers on. What a neat idea....ready for framing and so pretty. 

 

My favorite were these pressed dogwood flowers. Sigh. 

 

 

Then Brenda got out all the fabric, felt, suede, leather, thread.... buttons....and we made softies animals! 

 

 

 

 

Did I mention what a fabulous hostess she is? Well, I'm going to mention it again. Look at this beautiful breakfast. How nice to sit down and eat meals as a group with no hurry or worry. It really hit me that this is something I do way too infrequently. 

 

 

 

On Sunday we all piled in the 'party van' and went on a road trip to Port Costa to the Theatre of Dreams and then on to Berkeley. We wanted to take the out of town ladies to some of our favorite places! (See my previous posts on Theatre of Dreams HERE and HERE). It was fun to see these places through new eyes and it was a great day!

Hero Arts May Card Kit Blog Hop!

Hi friends! I'm super excited to be sharing some projects with you today as part of the Hero Arts "My Monthly Hero" Card Kit release for the month of May. This kit is really cheerful and happy! It was a fun to make beautiful thank you notes with these supplies. I am in love with the cool envelope die and I know I will use that all the time. This kit contains everything you need to say thank you, make someone's day or spread a little kindness. The stamps and die were all designed by the wonderful Kelly Rasmussen. There is also a super fun sheet of sayings that can be cut up and used to spread even more kindness. The entire kit is in my favorite colors of aqua blue and citrus green. LOVE. The envelope die cuts like a dream! I cut the envelopes out of the included papers. Then I added a layer of white cardstock with my stamping. The envelope die has a notch in the back, so you just fold it and tuck the fold into the notch - done! This is also a GREAT size to be a gift card holder! You can place the gift card inside using a glue dot and then stamp thank you on the front. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The kit comes with tags and string too - easy and quick!

The kit contains:

A 4x6 clear stamp set, A gift card envelope die, Four half sheets of cardstock in tiffany blue and green apple, Four half sheets of vellum in turquoise and iridescent white, Ten white tags, silver embossing powder, Gray twine, and gems. There are 2 optional add-on items - CL981 Happy Mail Stamp Set and DI192 Thank You Pair Fancy Dies!
