10-7-15 EDITED TO ADD CONTEST WINNER: Lucky comment #7 - Saundra! She has been notified and her prize pack is in the mail! Thank you everyone - look for more prizes coming in November!
BOO! Did I scare you? Halloween is coming and that means it's time for treats (not tricks!) I simply adore making treats for Halloween. I love giving out candy to my friends and dreaming up creative ways to enjoy this fun and silly holiday! Today I'm sharing some retro/vintage Halloween Treat Bags I made using wonderful and clever dies from the Brenda Walton collection for Sizzix. Ms. Brenda make fabulous dies that make it so easy to create beautiful projects.
I'm very happy to share my idea with you today. AND....there is a prize package valued at more than $75! WAHOOO! PRIZES! (read more at the bottom for the details) Big thanks to Brenda Walton and Sizzix for the generous prize package!
Here are my orange and black gingham treat bags...all decked out for Halloween and filled with shiny kisses. These are fun and simple to make and sure to be a hit. I love anything vintage Halloween and I sure had fun with this project.
The Sweet Treat Bag gets cut out twice to make your bag. The Movers and Shapers Labels get cut out of one of the dies to make a hole in the front for your treats to show through. Then you add toppers and borders to decorate. Here are all of my elements cut out and ready to go. You can see the swirl from this Thinlits Set and the Medallions pieces also. I used traditional colors of black and orange.
Once your hole is cut out of the front of the bag, simply glue a piece of acetate to cover the hole! Then assemble your two pieces of bag to create the final one. This comes together so fast! You can use whatever glue you have on hand.
Here is the text paper medallion glued together and ready to be placed on the top of the bag. You can also see the nice crisp border piece and the silver swirl!
For the topper, I like to make a second layer to pop the color off the project. You can see I cut a separate piece of solid paper to go under the candy corn patterned paper. After I fill the bags I like to staple the top to make it nice and secure before I glue on all my accessories!
Now the exciting part! I glued on the swirl and then cut some cute ribbons to hang down. Then I glued on the medallion. I found some cute jack-o-lanterns in my stash and they matched perfectly!
Here is a side view so you can see how nicely they are finished off. The die is scored to make assembly very easy and no fuss. You can fit quite a lot in these bags too!
There are so many ideas! And not enough time, right? The dies I used in this project are:
Brenda Walton/Sizzix Sweet Treat Bag
Brenda Walton/Sizzix Movers and Shapers Labels
Brenda Walton/Sizzix Corners and Toppers
Brenda Walton/Sizzix Medallions
Brenda Walton/Sizzix Daisy Bouquet

I would use these bags to fill with little toys to bring to the local hospital's pediatric floor to give to the kids who are there for Halloween and then I would switch them up and do something similar for Christmas.
I would also fill them with baked goods for the local fire and police departments for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
My doctor's office would also get bags filled with treats like homemade soaps, candles and homemade finger towels.
I go out on Christmas Eve while families are at church and leave presents from Santa on the doorsteps (or inside if unlocked and I know them) for all of the children in the household. These bags would be perfect for this too! I have been doing this for over 15 years now and so far no one knows who is doing it! I get a kick out of being anonymous!
We don't get too many trick or treaters at our house because of where we live but I go around the neighborhood on Halloween and give out treat bags filled with kitty, horse, chicken and puppy treats for all the neighborhood animals. These would be a great way to hand them out this year!
I often hide little treats around my house for the grandchildren to find and I would be using these bags for that purpose too!
I have loads of ideas and could take up a whole page listing them but I will stop here. Thanks for the great treat bag tutorial and a chance to win the goods to make them!! They would get a lot of use if I won them!!! Fingers crossed!

Wanda, ok well I'm drooooling, your bags are so bootiful, sorry I had too, lol. I'm a huge Halloween fan. I've seriously got about 15 large plastic storage bins full of decorations and 3 carts with draws for the very little and delicate things. I love to make the packaging just as special as the gift I'm giving, but I hate wrapping so it's gift bags for everyone. I love finding beautiful gift bags, and this one fits the bill, the possabilities are endless. My sons school requires them to volunteer this year at our local hospital and I'd love to make up little gift bags for him to take to the patients.

There are many more holidays or occasions I can think of. Too many to list!

The treat bag die would be perfect to make little bags for homeless people filled with little travel size toiletries. How special to decorate them for the Christmas season and hand them out and/or give to local shelters. :)
Posted by: Danielle Dietz | 10/03/2015 at 07:50 AM
I could use these dies to make a series of bags for my mantle that would be an advent calendar. Love the idea of a window in the bag for a sneek peek. I can see them all lined up like soldiers (or nutcrackers), with each filled with a different sweet treat or keepsake ornament.
And I must say, what you did with these dies is fantastic!
